three year old meal plan

Children need a healthy and varied diet, including whole grains, to give them the energy to get through the day. Whole grains are power-packed with vitamins, minerals and trace elements and help to give them the fuel to keep going.

Introducing whole grains to your child's diet is not about replacing everything they eat with whole grains but alternating some foods with whole grains or mixing them together wtih non-whole grain foods.

Here is a three year old sample diet as provided by the Ministry of Health. It is to assist in determining serving recommendations and not seen as a diet that should be followed strictly. For further information click here.

breakfast
Weetbix (1)

Homog milk (100ml)

Wholemeal toast (1 slice)

Margarine (1 tsp)

Honey (1 tbsp)

Juice (100ml + 100ml water)

mid morning
Biscuit (1 plain)

Banana (1/2)

Homog milk (100ml)

lunch
Wholemeal bread (2 slices)

Margarine (1 1/2 tsp)

Boiled egg (1)

Vegemite (1/2 tsp)

Plain biscuit (1)

Apple (1/2)

mid afternoon
Cheese (1 slice)

Currant bread (1 slice)

Margarine (1 tsp)

Homog milk (100ml)

dinner
Mince (2 tbsp)

Pototo (1)

Peas (1 tbsp)

Carrots (1/2 cup)

Milk pudding (1/2 cup)

Day 2
